In multistory buildings, the sanitary waste riser (stud) for each group of plumbing fixtures which will be connected to the main horizontal sanitary waste at ground floor (parking space ceiling) should have at least an 8 feet vertical clear pipe (no connections) between the last connection at 2nd floor to riser (stud) to the point of connection to the main horizontal pipe at ground level. Therefore, the first floor (above ground floor) sewer system should be directly connected to the main horizontal pipe in ground level and the rise (stud) which carries all the above floors up to 2nd floor should also be connected to the main horizontal pipe to allow the flow stream running smoothly then enters to the main pipe. This type of connection system is calling “Suds’ Relief”.
