In split system air conditioning units, if both the refrigeration compressor and condenser coil are located in the outdoor unit, the outdoor unit is called a Condensing Unit.  A split system heat pump or cooling only unit is an example of this.

In split system air conditioning units if both the refrigeration compressor and evaporator coil are located in the indoor unit, and only a condenser coil is located in the outdoor unit, the outdoor unit is called a Condenser.  An example of this is a server room split cooling system.
