This subject needs about a size of a handbook explanation which cannot answer under a general question. If you make a specific detailed question then may have an answer for that. However high rise buildings can be from 10 story and above, for example in some states in USA, if height of the building is 75 feet and higher, that building is considered as a high-rise building.

There are multiple factors which need to be considered for fire protection system design in one building, such as:

-          Local code and requirements.

-          The source of supply water and available pressure.

-          Building configuration.

After all, the sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire department connections’ locations, number of required booster pumps, their capacity & head, all need to be determine and be sized per NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) or local codes, rules and regulations.
