A clean out fixture allows access to the inside of the sanitary piping, in order to remove any blockage which has been created by the wastes.

Recommendations for clean out fixtures:

  • At every change of pipe direction greater than 45°
  • At 5’-0” outside or inside the building at the point of exit.
  • At the base of all stacks
  • To comply with the applicable codes.
  • Size of the clean out at inside the building should be the same size as the piping size.

A sewer clean out is a capped pipe which provides access to a sewer line, allowing people to clean out blockages in the sewer.
